Fredericksburg's Got Talent
High School Acting Monologue Competition
Stage Door Productions is proud to present the first annual High School Acting Competition on Friday, September 24 and Saturday, September 25 at the Central Rappahannock Regional Library in downtown Fredericksburg.
Contestants will present their monologue on the stage in front of a panel of judges on Friday, September 24 beginning at 6:00pm. Those who advance to the final round of the contest have the opportunity to perform before an audience at the Showcase of Finalists on Saturday, September 25 at 7:00pm.
One talented student in grades 9 through 12 will win a $100 scholarship. The second place student will win a $50 scholarship. The 12 finalists will also receive recognition in Stage Door Productionsâ season program, an announcement in the Free Lance Star, and on its website. All prizes are subject to change and are based on a minimum entry.
Competition Rules:
· Students must be in 9-12 grade.
· Students may participate in either the monologue or scene contest, or both.
· No previous acting experience necessary.
· The monologues must be memorized - prompting of any kind will not be permitted.
· All monologues must be limited to a maximum of two minutes in length.
Students who exceed this limit will not be eligible for consideration as a finalist.
· Simple hand props will be allowed. No costumes. Students should dress in a manner appropriate for auditions. Simple set pieces such as a table, chair and stool will be available for use.
· Creativity and artistic risk-taking are encouraged, although students are advised to choose material carefully. Monologue material should be suitable for secondary school audiences. If the judges deem material to be inappropriate, students may be ineligible for consideration as finalists.
· Finalists will be chosen by the judges. All decisions are final.
· Complete and submit an entry form signed by a teacher, advisor, or coach. The deadline for applications is September 21, 2010
· Submit a non-refundable entry fee of $5 with the completed entry form.
· Arrive at the Central Rappahanock Regional Library at 6:00pm on Friday, September 24.
