A drunken encounter between Michael and David leads to a 20 year romance confined to a single weekend every year - the second weekend in September. The rest of the year the two go on with their lives. Michael with his wife and family and David as a fierce activist for gay rights. Over the course of the play you see how their secret, fiery romance survives and how this relationship enhances their lives.
