MATERIALS + RESOURCES
While looking at materials, one cannot help but to think about waste and the entire life cycle of materials. Heidi Sanborn, Executive Director of the California Products Stewardship Council, will identify and compare ways to divert materials that have outlived their current use from going to landfills. She will also address the costs of landfills and analyze the trends in recycling. In addition she will discuss strategies that can be employed by industry to address up-stream waste.
We all look to certification labels on our materials, but what is behind that label? Who is doing the certification, and what elements are being certified? Brandon Tinianov, Chief Technology Officer of Serious Materials and Secretary for the Board of USGBC-NCC, will explain the different certifications that are used for similar products, and why they are used, and what this means in terms of materials and production. He will also discuss new opportunities and concerns for green materials.
In addition to the presentations, enjoy a tour with the Group 4 Architecture Research + Planning team of the new Walnut Creek Library highlighting the different materials used to achieve LEED points. The Library is seeking LEED NC Silver certification.
