Gather memories: learning to fish in the river that ran through your yard in the Philippines; mornings baking in your Tia's kitchen in Peru; your father's labor in the sugar cane fields of Puerto Rico; the knife skills you learned in your grandfather's butcher shop in Lebanon before the war; the day the rice was about to run out and your food stamps finally arrived; the ferocious fire on which you made biryani for your new husband; the calf who was your job and your friend when you were a boy; the fairy godmother who blessed you with the secret tamale recipe that changed your life. Taste your way through the kitchens, food carts, markets, and restaurants of the city's most diverse neighborhood. Make a play. Stuff it, dress it, sprinkle it with theatrical magic.
