Instant Song Creation
Alan has been creating improvised music formats as early as 1982 and created the UK's first fully improvised arc plot musical, The Impro Musical, in 1988. This workshop concentrates on song forms like 'ballad' structure, 'riffs', verse/chorus, AABA, AA, and ABA. We also look at song creation process, the building of emotional 'pools' that open up song-story paths, creation of 'hook' lines, understanding pulse and the unique 'groove' each new song requires. Finally we look at singing as a group including: singing-in-one-voice, instant harmony, and 'passing the phrase'. It doesn't matter if you have improvised much music before (you also don't have to be a great singer) but a reasonable sense of pitch and musicality will enhance your enjoyment of this workshop.
