YOUTH BANK CABARET 2015
Some of Santa Cruz' finest young groups will converge at the cozy confines of the Kuumbwa Jazz to benefit the Youth Resource Bank's endowment for at-risk youth on Saturday January 31.
The doors open for an appealing Silent Auction at 6 PM. And the show starts at 7 PM.
NOT MY FAULT will open. They are a young rock group featuring singer Brooke O'Brien and teenaged musicians from the Aptos area. They will present a mix of originals penned by Brooke and covers. Brooke has a style and message that is confident and compelling. She has a way of calling the audience to attention.
MARTY O'REILLY & the Old Soul Orchestra, a phenomenal hard-to-define group that bridges Americana, Blues, & Old Time music is the unique, mesmerizing group that plays next. Marty is a riveting performer and the group can soar taking the audience on a musical ride that has a contemporary signature with echoes of tradition. They can bend a traditional like the St. James Infirmary or Smokestack Lightening into an entirely new shape. Or weave absolute magic with their original songs. They are celebrated throughout the West Coast and have played Outside Lands and other major events and venues.
COFFIS BROTHERS & the Mountain Men, a powerhouse young rock band will close the show with their big sound and exuberant energy. The group features some of the most talented musicians in Santa Cruz and their musicianship and coherence as a group is impressive. Their songs have a power and sparkle that is infectious and full of joy and they make one want to dance. They will be appearing at the Fillmore in SF with the legendary Jackie Greene in February and put on a robust and joyful show that is sure to energize you.
Each group will appear for a short set punctuated by Live Auctioning and tales of the Youth Resource Bank's exploits in Santa Cruz County. The fund benefits Foster Youth and at-risk youth coming home from hospitalization, rehab, or incarceration. The fund is instrumental in helping youth stabilize and reach for their own hopes and dreams.
The fund was started by the Honorable Judge Thomas Black, a long-time advocate for young people who had a vision of a responsive, no-red-tape fund that could be tapped by social workers, probation officers, therapists, and educators when kids are in need. The fund is an essential way to give a hand-up to aspiring young people.
