Course Description
Award-winning Architect, Michael Klement, AIA, has presented this class for Earth Advantage Institute to rave reviews. This course showcases Klement's exceptional projects, including a LEED Platinum 1830's whole house remodel. Participants will gain valuable insights about how to optimize a home through space planning, proper selection of materials and fixtures, and green building techniques. Hands-on exploration of innovative green building materials and technologies will provide inspiration to create a green home.
LEED-Platinum 1830's Whole House Remodel
This course will showcase a Platinum level 1830's whole house remodel. A partial list of the awards this house has won includes the following: Merit award with Remodeling Magazine Remodeling Design Awards program, Platinum award with Professional Remodeler's Best of the Best Awards program, Gold award and 'Judge's Vision' award with the Qualified Remodeler's Master Design Awards program, National Winner/Best Green Remodeling Project with the Chrysalis Awards for Remodeling Excellence.
Continuing Education Credit
* AIA: 2.5 Learning Units * 2.5 CCB elective hours * OR Real Estate Agency: 2 elective hours * LEED Green Associate Exam: Candidates for this exam can fulfill one of three options for meeting experience requirements (engagment in or completion of an education program that addresses green building principles) through participation in any of Earth Advantage Institute's courses that address green building principles.
Objectives
* Examine the need for green building practices. * Review case studies of green certified homes. * Compare different types of green building products and identify criteria for selecting appropriate materials. * Identify the costs and benefits of different energy efficient lighting systems.
