Topdog Underdog
TOPDOG/UNDERDOG by Suzan-Lori Parks Directed by Roosevelt Tidwell III February 20 March 15 Starring: Preach Freedom and Amilcar Hill
About the Play: : A hard-hitting hip-hop-journey of dizzying verbal virtuosity. Three card monte is the name of the game, and Lincoln is the master. His brother, Booth, an eager wannabe, can't understand why Lincoln would give up the excitement of the hustle to put on white-face and play a dead president at a shabby arcade. In the cramped single room they share, the brothers race headlong toward an historical blow-up. Their harsh and profane street lingo becomes poetry in the hands of 2002 Pulitzer Prize winner Suzan-Lori Parks. Mature themes and strong language.
About the Playwright: Suzan-Lori Parks is a playwright, songwriter, screenwriter and novelist. Named one of TIME magazine's "100 Innovators for the Next New Wave," in 2002 Suzan-Lori Parks became the first African American woman to receive the Pulitzer Prize in Drama for her Broadway hit Topdog/Underdog and is a recipient of the MacArthur "Genius" Award.
