Continuing Sojourn's tradition of site-specific and journey-based theatre, ON THE TABLE starts simultaneously every night in Portland and Molalla. If you live in Portland, start the journey there (The Church, 602 NE Prescott Street, Portland). If you live in Molalla, start the journey there (Rosse Posse Acres, 32690 S Mathias Road, Molalla). If you're coming from somewhere else, well...choose one of those locations, and start the journey. You will end the evening where you began -- we will return you to your starting destination between 10:30-11pm. We'll take care of everything that comes between...so come along for the ride!
After years of painstakingly fictional research, Sojourn Theatre brings you the completely imagined tale of two families (one in Portland, one in Molalla). It begins with two thoroughly recreated and utterly made-up memorial services for two family elders, both held on May 18, 1980. These services culminate with audiences taking a very real journey, over twenty miles and thirty years from where they began, to an undisclosed central destination (spoiler alert: Oregon City) where a young couple (who never actually existed) is about to make the biggest decision of their lives. They'll turn to their neighbors (you), and ask a question of life-altering and state-defining significance. Join us as we revisit the truth of a conversation that never occurred, and that happens every day, in an effort to help two families and an urban/rural citizenry decide once and for all -- who needs whom, and why?
Buses, barns & breaking bread...Take the Trip!

SOJOURN THEATRE is an ensemble-based company that has been making original performance in Portland and around the country for the past ten years. We are committed to a consistent investigation of the relationship an audience has to place and to the architecture in which the event of theatre occurs. Part thoughtful spectacle, part participatory event, Sojourn's work blends playfulness with a determined curiosity.
As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Sojourn relies on contributions and community partnerships to support our mission-based programming. On the Table is made possible, in part, by: the Clackamas County Cultural Coalition and the Oregon Cultural Trust; Kinsman Foundation; National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency; Oregon Arts Commission; PGE Foundation; Regional Arts & Culture Council and Work for Art; Spirit Mountain Community Fund; Molalla Arts Commission, Northwest Film Center, Mayahuel Catering, Rosse Posse Acres, Portland Playhouse and other community partners in Portland and Molalla; employee matching gifts from Bank of America and Portland General Electric; and numerous individual donors in Oregon and throughout the country. Early development of On the Table took place at The Orchard Project in upstate New York, and at Lewis & Clark College in Portland (in association with Sojourn's 2009 Summer Institute).
