AIA|LA Design Awards Tour Series: Buzz Court
Date:Tuesday, February 24th, 2015. 5pm.
Buzz Court is a collection of six homes in Silver Lake built under the small lot ordinance.
Certified LEED Platinum and built to a density of 25 homes/acre (the Los Angeles average is 9 homes/acre), the project reconsiders the single family home typology.
Rather than build a row of homes serviced by a single loaded driveway, Buzz has a unique snaking driving that weaves between the homes and adds over 40% of additional exterior surface area for day-lighting and ventilation. The exterior of the project is clad in vertical fins to provide privacy to the homes, aid the project in exceeding California energy standards by 30%, and create an engaging streetscape that transforms drastically from day to night.
The three story homes have three unique floor plans ranging from 1540 sq. ft. to 1900 sq. ft. Features range from roof decks with views of the Griffith Observatory to built-in walnut millwork. Completed at the end of 2012, all six homes sold out in one month.
