"The Pirates of Penzance" by W.S. Gilbert and Sir Arthur Sullivan
49 years ago this month, Louise Curtis - who was then the Director of Music at Follen Church - and Marilu Nowlin - Director of the Follen Players - began a tradition of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas presented by the Youth and Junior Choirs of Follen Church. That year it was "H.M.S. Pinafore." 13 years ago the present Director of Music, Thomas Stumpf, took over the tradition with a production of "Patience." At 8 p.m. on the nights of Friday June 11th and Saturday June 12th, 2010, you are invited to the Follen kids' latest presentation of the topsy-turvy world of Gilbert and Sullivan! The bitingly witty
verses of the one and the utterly delightful music of the other cast their spell over a story of not-so-dashing pirates and not-so-intelligent policemen, a model of a major-general and his beautiful daughters - a story of mismatched pairs and mistaken identities which as always lampoons British mores, and humanity in general! Mark your calendars for "The Pirates of Penzance"!
