Kung Pao Kosher Comedy and El Rio Present...
Comedy Returns to El Rio!

Now in its 6th year, this monthly (every 3rd Thursday) comedy show features an eclectic mix of comedians. A Kung Pao Kosher Comedy and El Rio production. MC'ed by Kung Pao's Lisa Geduldig.

This month features: Jenny Yang, Charlie Ballard, Francesca Fiorentini, Sampson McCormick, Bobby Golden, and Lisa Geduldig

Jenny Yang is an LA-based writer and comedian who was born in Taiwan and raised in Southern California. She co-produces the first-ever (mostly) female, Asian American standup comedy tour, Dis/orient/ed Comedy and was featured in Joan Rivers' 2013 Showtime documentary, Why We Laugh: Funny Women. Jenny's comedy has been featured on Ora TV's topical comedy show, Headline Punchline, and Lady Parts Justice comedy videos about reproductive health and justice. (Lady Parts Justice is the brainchild of Comedy Central's The Daily Show co-creator, Lizz Winstead.) She is also the co-host of Phil Yu's "Angry Asian America" web series on ISAtv a new media platform created by Far East Movement, and Wong Fu Productions, owners of one of the most-subscribed channels on YouTube. Jenny's work has also been seen on BBC News and Al Jazeera America. With a background in both advocacy politics and live-event entertainment, Jenny has become a sought-after host for mission-driven organizations throughout Southern California. Jenny has also quickly become a reliable resource for college and university classes and organizations presenting educational panels and workshops on issues including: Asian Americans in entertainment and media, women in comedy, ethnic comedy and humor, and finding your voice and career after college. Before her start in comedy and while most of her peers engaged in reckless behavior for sport, Jenny dedicated herself to the Los Angeles labor movement, graduated top of her class in political science at Swarthmore College, and was a Public Policy and International Affairs Fellow for a Master's in Urban Planning at UCLA. www.jennyyang.tv  www.disorientedcomedy.weebly.com

Charlie Ballard started his stand up comedy career in 2003 at the Brainwash Cafe in San Francisco. He is the host & creator of San Francisco's premier LGBT theme show, "Hella Gay Comedy Show" and has been published in Campus Magazine, Indian Country, The Advocate, seen on LOGO, Comedy Central, NBC's America's Got Talent, Canada's APTN (Aboriginals People Television Network), and Kathy Griffin Live. In 2013, Charlie completed starring in his first feature film, "All the Others Were Practice," a Post-Gay Romantic Comedy. Look for Charlie doing voiceover in an animated short for PBS called "Injunuity: Two Spirit." www.charlieballard.com

Francesca Fiorentini is a Bay Area based comic as well as a presenter and producer with the online news outlet AJ+ (Al Jazeera). She enjoys very short walks on the beach. Troll her at @franifio. www.francescafiorentini.com

Sampson McCormick is an award-winning, black, openly gay stand up comedian, writer and activist. He has produced three comedy albums, written two books, and won several awards including most recently the Gillard-Alston Award for Contributions to LGBT Youth Empowerment. He was named Love from the Sound Stage's Best Comedian (2011), Velocity Magazine's Best Comedian in 2009 and has been featured in publications across the country including The Advocate and the Washington Post and has appeared on BET, VH1, MTV and The Own Network. His comedy is highly personal as he discusses a difficult childhood that included growing up black and gay amidst an abusive stepfather, homelessness, homophobia in religion, and bullying and domestic violence.  Sampson has been invited to the White House for his contributions to society through the arts and has worked alongside notable entertainers such as Patti LaBelle, Aretha Franklin, Whoopi Goldberg, and RuPaul. www.sampsoncomedy.com

Bobby Golden was born the youngest out of three Persians in Westlake Village, CA. He began performing stand up comedy at the age of 17 and has been unstoppable ever since. He has performed at all the major clubs in Los Angeles including The Comedy Store, Hollywood Improv, and Laugh Factory and has been featured in Palm Springs' Pulp Magazine and Santa Monica Magazine. Bobby was a semi-finalist in KTLA5's "Find Me a Comic" Contest and was voted Funniest Gay Comedian of May 2009 by the Celebration Theatre in West Hollywood.

Lisa Geduldig is a local comic and comedy producer who's the creator, producer, and MC of a variety of comedy shows including Kung Pao Kosher Comedy (now in its 23rd year); Funny Girlz: A Smorgasbord of Women Comedians; The Color of Funny: A Multi-Cultural Comedy Show; and A Muslim, A Mormon, and A Jew Walk into A Bar: The Comedy of Religion.
