Mosaic Dance Theater Company's Mediterranean Mosaic
The Valley of Allentown presents "Mediterranean Mosaic," featuring the award-winning Mosaic Dance Theater Company (MDTC), a non-profit organization based in the New York City metropolitan area, in a dazzling array of dance works celebrating the rich dance traditions of the Mediterranean countries of the Near East and southern Europe.  The performance is scheduled for Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 5:00 PM, at the Scottish Rite Center (SRC), located at 1544 W. Hamilton St., Allentown, PA.  Tickets for the dinner-show event are $45.00 in advance, and can be ordered online at  www.BrownPaperTickets.com/event/1121830.  Included in the ticket price is a buffet of Mediterranean cuisine prepared by SRC's catering manager, Chef Naji Jabbour. Tickets, if available, can also be purchased at the door, in cash only, for $60.00.  There is limited seating for the event, so early reservations are recommended.

The vibrant, original choreographies in the program by Samara Adell, the Company's Artistic Director for Dance, showcase the variety of MDTC's repertory.  An internationally respected teacher and performer, Samara was protégé to the late master dancer/teacher/choreographer Ibrahim Farrah.  As principal dancer in Mr. Farrah's Near East Dance Group, she performed in some of America's most prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, and Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center.  Part One of "Mediterranean Mosaic" spotlights dance from Turkey, Italy, Spain, and Greece, while Part Two highlights dances from North Africa and the Middle East, including  Lebanon, Morocco, and Egypt, and Saudi Arabia.

Founded in 2003 by Allentown native and Lehigh University graduate Morgiana Celeste Varricchio, MDTC's Producing Artistic Director, the Company evolved out of programs originally developed by Ms. Varricchio which began touring in 1992 and are now a part of MDTC's diverse repertory.  This critically acclaimed company, a non-profit, tax-exempt organization, is dedicated to the dance and folkloric traditions of the Mediterranean region. The dances and music, the stories and myths, and the history and legends of this fascinating area form the wellspring of inspiration for MDTC's creative vision. Based in the New York City metropolitan area, MDTC is known for its artistry and authenticity, not only in creating the original works that comprise its repertory, but also in faithfully researching their origins to ensure cultural integrity. The Company is the recipient of the 2013 Sunshine Award for its contribution to the performing arts, recognized by NARAS (National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences) and the United Nations.  MDTC tours nationally to performing arts venues, universities, and educational facilities, and is on the roster of artists for Lincoln Center's Meet the Artist programs, as well as Young Audiences of New Jersey/Eastern Pennsylvania, and Hartford Performs.
