The 4th Annual Bloomin' Beerfest
The Irish Cultural and Learning Foundation presents The Fourth Annual Bloomin' Beerfest Saturday, June 12, 2010, 7:00 - 11:00 PM at the Irish Cultural Center in Downtown Phoenix.
Join us for a unique Bloomsday Celebration which commemorates Irish author James Joyce and his groundbreaking novel, "Ulysses", with beer-tasting, readings from the novel, live Irish music and food.
WHAT IS BLOOMSDAY? The name "Bloomsday" derives from Leopold Bloom, the protagonist of James Joyce's novel, "Ulysses". June 16th was the day in 1904 on which the events in "Ulysses" were set. In the novel, Bloom travels around Dublin meeting many fascinating characters while making full use of the city's pubs. Bloomsday is celebrated in Ireland and throughout the world by Irish people and Joyce fans alike.
This year's event will feature a wide array of specialty beers produced and poured by members of the Arizona Craft Brewers Guild. Live Irish music will be provided by Trotter's Wake and Pat McCrossan, and readings from "Ulysses" will be performed throughout the evening. Fish & Chips will also be available for purchase.
TICKETS:
BEER-TASTING ADMISSION: $25 presale, or $35 at the gate. Presale tickets are available May 1 - June 11 Price includes all Bloomsday activities plus 16 token tickets which can be used for beer and/or food.
TEETOTALER'S ADMISSION: $10 at the gate. Price includes all Bloomsday activities plus free soda or bottled water. No alcohol can be purchased with this admission. Please purchase Teetotaler's tickets at the gate.
Children under 12 admitted free, but "Ulysses" is definitely geared to an adult audience with its bawdy themes and salty language, so admission to the Cottage Readings will be limited to guests 18 years and older.
The Proceeds of this event benefit the Irish Cultural and Learning Foundation (ICLF), the 501(c) 3 corporation that operates the Irish Cultural Center in downtown Phoenix in partnership with the City of Phoenix. The ICLF operates the Center and its educational and cultural programs to preserve and showcase Irish culture for the education and enjoyment of the people of Arizona.
