A Reading of Brian Merriman's "Eirebrushed"
A reading of Brian Merriman's "Eirebrushed" as a benefit for St. Pat's for All & TOSOS, NYC's oldest LGBT theater company Directed by Mark Finley January 21, 2015, 7:30pm The Irish Arts Center 553 W. 51st St. Tickets: $25
With Honor Molloy ("Smarty Girl: Dublin Savage"), Chris Weikel ("Penny Pennyworth") and more TBA.
Can a "flawed person" be a hero? Nurse Elizabeth O'Farrell was airbrushed out of the 1916 surrender photograph. A century later, the hidden lesbian and gay heroes of 1916 return today to discuss their place in modern Ireland...A revolutionary story of love and courage, challenging history to complete the identity of the heroism of 1916 and challenging us to hear it today.
Eirebrushed tells the stories of four of the heroes & heroines of the Irish Rebellion in 1916: Patrick Pearse, Eva Gore-Booth, Sir Roger Casement & Nurse Elizabeth O'Farrell, the woman who was literally airbrushed out of the picture of the Irish surrender.
Originally presented at the International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival in May 2014, this reading is presented by TOSOS, the long-running LGBT theater company founded by Stonewall Veteran Doric Wilson (Mark Finley Artistic Director, Barry Childs Producing Director), and by St. Pat's For All, the inclusive St. Patrick's Day Parade in Queens (co-chaired by Brendan Fay & Kathleen Walsh D'arcy).
