THE WHITE LIARS In another short play by Peter Shaffer, Sophie Lemberg is a fortune teller and a baroness of the Holy Roman Empire - or is she? This third-rate eccentric and disillusioned German fortune teller in a third-rate English seaside resort is visited by the lead singer of a rock band and his business manager who both want their fortunes told. Sophie is bribed by the Svengali-like manager who wants her to predict a horrible future for the the rock singer who is getting "too close" to his girlfriend. Things are not what they seem to be, and their lives turn out to be much stranger than the fiction Sophie tries to create in her magic ball!
