Choosing the Best Fruit Tree Varieties: Preparing for Bareroot Season and Scion Exchanges with John Valenzuela
Our favorite fruit tree expert John Valenzuela returns to Pollinate Farm & Garden. Prepare for winter's bareroot season and take the mystery out of planting and growing deciduous fruit trees!
In part 1 of this workshop series we will discuss how to select the best fruit tree varieties for flavor, climate and growing conditions. Learn the basics of a scion exchange and how to make the best of the upcoming California Rare Fruit Growers Golden Gate Chapter Scion Exchange on January 11, 2014.
In part 2 of this series, learn to create your own multi-grafted trees! Store your collected scions for spring grafting and learn how to graft them on to bare root stock at Pollinate's February 22 Grafting Workshop.
Instructor Bio: John Valenzuela is a horticulturist, consultant and educator specializing in fruit trees and home gardens. He is the founder of Cornucopia Food Forest Gardens, and serves as chairperson of the Golden Gate Chapter of the California Rare Fruit Growers.
