Adult class -- Biomimicry Intersection of Nature, Art, and Science
New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science
Albuquerque, NM
Share this event:

Explore bio-mimicry in a playful way that combines art and science.  Bio-mimicry is the growing field that studies nature's organisms for ecologically sound form and function design ideas.  Learn why this field is able to solve many of our ecological challenges and how embedded in many of nature's organisms are designs for new products and processes. Using the Museum's collection, you will study leaves from various climates around the world and explore why they function the way they do. You will draw a design inspired by the leaves, make molds, and translate them into a plaster object. Your final take home artwork will be a 14"X14" sculpture representing a model of water and sunlight functions for a sustainable home.

This class is geared for adults and older children, ages 12 and above.  Teachers are encouraged to attend. No prior experience in art is required. The class fee includes lunch and most materials.

Ana MacArthur is a multidisciplinary artist whose work has focus on light and ecological issues. She has worked with ages from elementary school to university level.
