A Winter Concert of German Baroque Chamber Music Performed by Sound Counterpoint
"Sonate auf Concertenart": Virtuosic Chamber Music of the German Baroque will be performed at St.Placid Priory by the quartet Sound Counterpoint. The four talented musicians are Linda Melsted - Baroque Violin, Curtis Foster - Baroque Oboe, Miyo Aoki - Recorder, Jonathan Oddie - Harpsichord.
The Vivaldian concerto reached Germany in the first half of the eighteenth century and was an immediate hit. Many German composers adopted elements of its style, combining Vivaldian elements with typically German skills such as well-crafted counterpoint. Not only the concerto genre was affected, but also the sonata, lead the emergence of the Sonate auf Concertenart, or sonata in the concerto style. Making up the core of the program are two such pieces by Fasch and Telemann - both for recorder, oboe, violin and continuo - which are complemented by works for various combinations of instruments by Telemann and Bach.
Please take this opportunity to support St.Placid Priory, enjoy light refreshments in the beautiful setting, talk with the musicians and hear this incredible concerto.
