Austin Pendleton & Barbara Bleier: How About Love?
Songs about love both inform, and are informed by cultural notions of love at any given time.  AUSTIN PENDLETON and BARBARA BLEIER, along with guest singers BARBARA MAIER GUSTERN and PAUL GREENWOOD will be exploring the nature of love as it is portrayed in Broadway and off-Broadway musicals, as well as contemporary (and not-so-contmporary) popular (and not-so-popular) songs.  We will be performing solos, duets, trios and quartets by such composers as Richard Rogers, Rogers and Hammerstein, Rogers and Hart, Kurt Weil, June Styne,Johnny Mercer, Jonathan Larson (Rent), Peter Larson (Brownstone),Frederick Loewe, Maltby and Shire, Stephen Sondheim, George and Ira Gershwin, Francesca Blumenthal, Tom Toce, and Amanda McBroom. Definitely NOT your mother's cabaret!
HOW ABOUT LOVE?  is directed by BARBARA MAIER GUSTERN. Music direction is by PAUL GREENWOOD.

AUSTIN PENDLETON  is an actor, director, playwright and teacher of acting. He has appeared frequently on, off and off-off Broadway. (His first Broadway appearance was as Motel the Tailor in the original production of Fiddler on the Roof, directed by Jerome Robbins, and starring Zero Mostel.) He can be seen in approximately 300 films. He has appeared regularly on TV on such shows as Oz, Homicide, Law and order and Billions. In New York, he has directed, in recent years, BETWEEN RIVERSIDE AND CRAZY and four shows at CSC (UNCLE VANYA, THREE SISTERS, IVANOV and HAMLET) featuring such players as Peter Sarsgaard (Hamlet), Maggie Gyllenhall, and Ethan Hawke. He has written three plays (ORSON'S SHADOW, UNCLE BOB, BOOTH) all published in New York, and, in the case of Uncle Bob and Orson's Shadow, internationally. He directed A Day at the Beach for the Mint Theatre Company, and A Taste of Honey for the Pearl Theatre. He recently appeared on Broadway in MTCs production of CHOIR BOY, and in the Wild Theaters production of Aaron Posners LOVE SUCKS. He teaches acting in New York at HB Studio, where he studied with Uta Hagen and Herbert Berghof. He also studied acting with Robert Lewis.

BARBARA BLEIER is a singer, actor and playwright who has appeared in solo shows and revues in national and international cabaret, as well as appearing on stage, in film, and on TV. The mother of a psychopathic killer in the cult classic, SWOON, she appeared in THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU, with Jane Fonda and Tina Fey, and in THEY CAME TOGETHER, with Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler. She recently completed a cabaret engagement in Los Angeles, at the Gardenia. Her solo show, WHO'S YOUR MAMA? was selected for production in the NYC Women at Work Festival, and her two-person revue with Austin Pendleton received critical praise in New York and Chicago. She has studied acting with Austin Pendleton, singing with Barbara Maier, and musical performance with the late Julie Wilson at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center. Austin and Barbara are both featured in the film, SUNSET, directed by award-winning filmmaker, Jamison Locascio. Both Austin and Barbara are delighted to be returning to Pangea.
