The Máirtín O'Connor Trio with Méara Meara
Hup! This is something to look forward to indeed. AND one of those events that doesn't come around too often. Máirtín O'Connor is recognized as one of the foremost proponents of the accordion or "the box" as it is affectionately and more widely known these days. Add in fiddler, Cathal Hayden, and singer/guitarist Séamie O'Dowd, and you have what can only be described as a super-trio of traditional music.
Máirtín O'Connor was just awarded the TG4 Gradam Ceoil 2015 / Traditional Musician of the Year
Séamie O'Dowd was with Dervish for many years.
All-Ireland champion fiddle & banjo player Cathal Hayden was a member of Four Men & a Dog, and Arcady
Just Added: Haley Richardson, brother Dylan and young piper Keegan Loesel. Méara Meara is Irish for lively fingers, & this trio has them. Young and dynamic, they've been playing since before they can remember, soaking up tunes & songs at a rate only the young ones can. Haley and Dylan had a high impact opening set for Kevin Crawford and Cillian Valelly last year, and Kegan was part of the Mary McNamara exchange that played there so the are not strangers to the Burren stage, but this is the first time they're here together as Méara Meara.
The Burren Backroom series is now well established as one of the great trad series in the world, and looks to create intimate, informal presentations held in the atmospheric space created by well-known traditional musicians Tommy and Louise McCarthy in Davis Square, Somerville, Masachusetts.
Hosted by Brian O'Donovan of A Celtic Sojourn on WGBH radio, these gatherings will feature core performers from many aspects of traditional music as well as special guests, and conversations around the music. As is the custom of the Burren, it is anticipated informal and dynamic post concert sessions will be a feature.
There is a $5 discount for WGBH Members. If you are a member, send an e-mail to celtic@wgbh.org and we will send you the code.
Seating is VERY limited and these events have been selling out, so get your tickets today!
