A Christmas Carol Radio Theatre
The radio adaptation of Charles Dickens' novel, A Christmas Carol, originally produced by Orson Welles on December 24, 1939, will be performed by The Great Southwest Radio Theatre Project (GSR) at the Performing Arts Center in Coolidge, AZ. A Christmas Carol is a heartwarming story that puts everyone in the festive mood for the coming holiday season. Following an intermission, the GSR will return with a second seasonal favorite, A Miracle for Christmas. Miracle first aired in the CBS radio series Grand Central Station on December 24, 1949. The story is about a disgruntled ambulance driver who finds he has to work Christmas Eve with a new intern. During the course of the evening the driver crosses paths with three people in need, each of whom is miraculously treated by the intern until the driver himself is touched and change by this very special person.
The GSR is a troupe of voice actors from Arizona's East Valley region who perform live radio theatre complete with the original commercial jingles sung on stage. Hand-operated sound effects known as "Foley" as well as digital effects and music comprise the engaging performances. GSR also features Jazz singers who entertain during the interludes. GSR not only performs original radio drama from radio's Golden Age, but also features original "Arizona Stories" based upon true happenings in the state's past and written by a GSR actor and writer. The GSR will travel to any performance venue in the Central Valley to entertain audiences young and old. For more information call Ralph Swain at (712) 204-4527.
