The From-Boys-To-Men Banquet
What does it take for a boy to become a man?
What does it take for man to lead a boy into adulthood?
Those are two ideas that will be addressed by former Super Bowl champion Don Beebe when he is the keynote speaker at an evening designed to help improve male relationships between generations.
The Men's Ministry of Elk Grove Baptist Church is sponsoring this catered, family-style dinner to give young men, especially those from homes with non-resident fathers, a chance to interact with men willing to help them develop mature, responsible lifestyles.
Teens sixth grade and above are invited. Fathers, coaches, counselors, Scout leaders, clergy -- any adult male interested in helping improve the lives of young men -- is encouraged to buy seats and bring a group of lads to hear and meet Don Beebe, who has appeared in more Super Bowls than any other NFL player.
Currently the director of "The House of Speed," Don played in six super bowls over his nine-year career, and is considered one of the fastest players to ever play in the NFL. He is best known for catching Leon Lett, who had a 35-yard head start, and denying him a touchdown in Super Bowl XXVII.
Beebe later coached Aurora Christian High School to three Illinois High School Association state football championships. He is also the author of "Six Rings from Nowhere," his autobiography soon to become a major motion picture.
Tickets are $15 per person and may be purchased at Elk Grove Baptist Church, or secured through Brown Paper Tickets. Seats are limited.
In addition to Beebe, attendees will have an opportunity to win door prizes to sporting events and community activities.
The From-Boys-to-Men Banquet is about life lessons, rituals of manhood and perseverance. It is an outgrowth of on-going studies between the Men's Ministry of Elk Grove Baptist Church and the teen men of EGBC and neighbor churches. This banquet is an opportunity for young men to dress up, stand up and be planted on solid ground.
Elk Grove Baptist Church is a multi-ethnic, intergenerational congregation near Chicago's O'Hare airport, dedicated to developing a family of Christ-followers. For more information, visit myegbc.com, call 847-593-8337, or charge tickets at beebebanquet@brownpapertickets.com.
