Soul Bound Inc. and the Arts Council for Long Beach have put together a full day of food, fun, art, and live entertainment on Sunday, October 19th, 2014 from 12noon until 6:00pm.
The Taste of Uptown will highlight the restaurants and businesses in Uptown Long Beach's 8th and 9th districts connecting the community together in a free family friendly festive atmosphere.
The partnership of A LOT and the Taste of Uptown provides a fun, family day for local residents to enjoy spending time in their community, participating in art, and TASTING on local delights.
"In our second year of organizing this event we will once again connect, excite and highlight the 8th and 9th district communities of Uptown Long Beach like no other event has ever done before." said organizer Stephen Metz.
A LOT is a community-wide initiative presenting free arts experiences in underutilized spaces throughout the city of Long Beach. A LOT broadens audience and artist engagement, linking arts and culture with local neighborhoods. Through music, dance, theatre and numerous other art forms, A LOT presents free arts experiences on vacant lots in traditionally underserved areas of the city. Shay Thorton, ACLB said, " Our hope is that Long Beach will become just a bit smaller and more intimate, drawing residents together to celebrate the City's rich culture."
Taste of Uptown (Long Beach) includes restaurants from the Uptown Long Beach community which include the 8th and 9th districts, who will offer samples from their menus alongside performances as part of the A [North] LOT events by the Arts Council of Long Beach.
Participating restaurants include Johnny Reb's, Flame Broiler, El Cortez Mexican, Robert Earl BBQ, KBQ Korean BBQ, City Foods, Flame Broiler, Fusion (Mexican and Soul food) restaurant Cliff's Burrito, Unforgettable Lemonade, Revive Organic Juice, Might Munchie Kettle Korn (local snack vendor from Harbor Area Farmers Markets in Long Beach).
Performances will include audio and music by Dave Williams and The MBT, Pure Freedom, Solo Guitarist Robi Duganne, R&B artist Francious, The Jazz Angels, Bike Odyssey, The Long Beach Playhouse and Angela Wilcocks.
Kids art booth section (ages 6yrs-12yrs) will be provided by Artfully Viktoriya (Viktoriya Hristrova). Viktoriya's art section will teach and show kids how to create art projects using recycled friendly environmental material.

Admission is free and open to the public. Tickets will be available for purchase at the event starting at $1.00 to use towards the purchase of food and drink. Maximum charge for each plate will be $5.00 or less. This pricing allows the public to taste four to five restaurants or vendors for under $20.

Our community partners include Andy Street Association(non-profit), CHASE BANK in Bixby Knolls, Century 21, CDR Benefits and Insurance, Compton Herald News Paper, 9th District Councilmember Rex Richardson, 8th District Councilmember Al Austin, The Children's Clinic (Long Beach) and The Boy Scouts who will be performing the opening flag ceremonies for the event that day.
