McNally Smith Presents "Dissonance: Mental Health and Music"
McNally Smith College of Music, 89.3 The Current, and MPR's Healthy States present "Dissonance: Mental Health and Music" an annual concert and conversation focused on the topics of suicide, mental illness and substance abuse. This free event features performers Justin Pierre (Motion City Soundtrack), Caroline Smith, Andy Bothwell (Astronautalis), and Adam Levy (The Honeydogs). It is hosted by Sarah Souder Johnson, Director of Student Life and Counseling at McNally Smith, and moderated by The Current's David Campbell. The conversation will focus on the performers' experiences with mental health-related issues, and each will perform songs that speak to their personal trials and triumphs. Now in its third year, "Dissonance" was created to spread awareness, de-stigmatize the ideas of mental wellness and recovery, support students in a relevant way, and highlight community resources for young adults and artists grappling with mental health issues.
