SLFF 2014 - Blanco
Dominican Republic 2014 Color 70'
US West Coast Premiere Director: Melvin Duran
Documentary, Biography
Rated: G
Spanish w/ English subtitles
Blanco portrays the lives of six albinos in Constanza, a small rural mountain community of the Dominican Republic, where albinos are commonly referred to as "blondies" or "Americans." Without any real information or knowledge about albinism, they struggle to live normal lives, despite enduring physical sufferings like severe sunburns and progressive blindness. Perhaps most challenging of all, is coming-of-age in a culture that doesn't understand them or their condition.
