The Davey Foundation Film Showcase
The David Ross Fetzer Foundation for Emerging Artists (aka the Davey Foundation) invites you to join us in our second year of providing financial support and mentoring to young, emerging filmmakers and playwrights.
The Film Showcase, December 17, 2014, 7pm at the Tower Theatre will feature three films:
"The First Men," the Davey Foundation short film grant award winner for 2014, directed by Ben Kegan, will premiere along with award-winning short film by Dustin Guy Defa, "Person to Person," and "Rocket," a short directed by Kenny Riches featuring David Fetzer, Patrick Fugit, and Allison Baar.
Ben Kegan's "The First Men" is the culmination of Ben's work in the MFA Film program at Columbia University. An adaptation of Stacey Richter's Pushcart Prize-winning short story, "The First Men" is a dark comedy about a mother, a daughter, a student, and a day at the mall.
Dustin Defa's "Person to Person" tells the story of a kind-hearted record store owner who wakes up the morning after hosting a party to discover a stranger passed out on his floor. He spends the rest of the day trying to convince her to leave. "Person to Person" has appeared at many festivals, most notably the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, SXSW, and Berlinale, winning the DAAD short film prize.
"Rocket" is a combination of Truffaut's "Jules and Jim" and "We Bought a Zoo," with ominous undertones. Patrick Fugit (Almost Famous, Gone Girl) stars with David Fetzer in this Kenny Riches short.
And, in an exciting development, this year the Foundation's Showcase will be expanded to include a free Film Forum 7 pm Thursday, December 18 at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art. Filmmakers include the Davey Foundation award winner along with Dustin Guy Defa, Kenny Riches, Patrick Waldrop, Rebecca Thomas, and Amanda Stoddard, and actor Patrick Fugit, discussing Collaboration in Independent Film.
