CANCELLED - JOHN COOPER CLARKE reading and documentary screening
*** This event is unfortunately canceled due to visa difficulties, we hope that JCC is able to visit the US in the near future.

On Saturday, September 20, iconic punk poet John Cooper Clarke will visit the PhilaMOCA for a live reading/Q&A followed by a screening of the documentary EVIDENTLYJOHN COOPER CLARKE (2012).

Bio:
Ever wondered whose dulcet tones resonate across the closing scenes of the penultimate episode of The Sopranos?  Introducing the UK's most important and influential performance poet - John Cooper Clarke.

John Cooper Clarke is an icon in the UK, Australasia and across Europe, with a career spanning decades and making its mark across music, TV, film, radio and even the UK school curriculum!

His ascerbic, satirical, political and very funny verse, delivered in a unique rapid-fire performance style, resonated with the punk movement of the 70s, leading him to tour with all the seminal bands of that era including The Sex Pistols and The Clash.  John became a figurehead for that movement and all it encompassed, so much so that Joy Division and New Order were proud to open shows for John on many occasions.  He toured the USA with Elvis Costello and Richard Hell during the same period.

John has toured with some of America's most profound poetic giants including Alan Ginsberg and Gregory Corso.  He's a fan of Americana in general  recently choosing "Elvis Movies" as his specialist subject during a celebrity edition of the iconic UK quiz show Master Mind and he's a dedicated fan of The Simpsons.

John's first book of poems "Ten Years In an Open Necked Shirt" is one of the world's best-selling poetry books.
Fast forward to 2014 and John is as relevant as ever, cited as a huge inspiration by Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys, Plan B, and many more.  His iconic appearance (skinny trousers, sunglasses and mess of blackhair) has never been more recognizable
