Alexander Sung, Harpsichord - Presents From Heaven to Hades, and Even a Mermaid
Alexander Sung, an accomplished pianist and harpsichordist and a two time winner of international harpsichord competitions, returns to the Bay Area to perform for us a harpsichord concert. He will weave The Little Mermaid fairy tale with music composed by Mozart to grab the audience's emotion and imagination through the heroine's journey of love and adventure. Program: Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1741) Toccata in D Major BWV 912 Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) Sonata in F Major KV 332 9 Variations on the Aria "Lison dormait" from N. Dezede KV 264 C Major Sonata in B flat major KV333
Message from Alexander Sung:
"The Little Mermaid" by Hans Christian Anderson has been always my kind of fairy tale. It involves so many different emotions, just like Mozart's Sonatas KV 332 and KV 333, as well as his variation of KV 264 written in 1778 during a time of personal torment in Paris. Despite his vast musical talent, He could not find any work. And his beloved girlfriend, who became a star by singing his operas, left him. That year his mother who accompanied him all the way to Paris passed away. "The Little Mermaid" fits quite well with the emotion of these Mozart's pieces. We will listen to his music on the English Kirkmann double harpsichord, one of the most popular keyboard instruments of this period.
Looking forward to see you at my concert...
