NW Acoustic Guitar Contest & Concert
On Saturday, September 27, 2014, Shorty's Garden and Home Center in Vancouver, WA will be presenting a unique music event. Featuring an "American Idol" style contest for solo acoustic Singer-Guitarists in the afternoon, and a 3 hour evening concert for acoustic guitar fans featuring local and national acoustic guitarists. Held indoors at Shorty's Garden and Home Center, 10006 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd., Vancouver, WA, there is seating for more than 250 guests who can also enjoy visiting a variety of vendor displays. Of course partaking in various food, beer, wine and gourmet coffee will be one of the more enjoyable highlights! And with a little luck, audience members could become a winner in one of our many music and restaurant related raffle prizes!
The evening concert will be showcasing the contest champion, plus a special performance by local Portland, OR singer-songwriter Scott Gallegos. The headline feature performers are two nationally acclaimed local Vancouver, WA fingerstyle guitarists: John Standefer and Doug Smith!
John Standefer is the 2002 U.S. National Fingerstyle Champion, and Doug Smith is a 2006 Grammy Award Winner for his guitar playing in the movie August Rush.
But most importantly, this event is a non-profit endeavor!
All profits will be donated to the local Portland, OR charitable organization The Snowman Foundation http://www.snowmanfoundation.org/, who are dedicated to helping kids in our community obtain musical instruments, instruction, and inspiration so they may further develop their musical interests and skills.
We expect this unique dual music event will strongly attract both young and old music lovers who enjoy watching, listening, and meeting these Final Round contestants. Although watching the contestants compete in the live "Final Rounds" will be a show in itself (from Noon to 4 pm), the best part is the contest admission is FREE!
Doors open at 11 am with the Singer-Guitarist contest beginning at Noon, and the Fingerstyle-Guitarist contest beginning at 2:30 pm and admission to the Contests is FREE!
The evening concerts (from 6pm to 9:30pm) opens its doors at 5pm. Concert admission is $20 for an Early-Bird purchased via the event website or Brown Paper Tickets (http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/706677).
We expect the concert will sell out, so don't miss your opportunity to get a seat at this great concert, plus watch the newly crowned 2014 NW Acoustic Guitar Champion make their first public performance!
