Patchy Sanders
Patchy Sanders, a genuine family band, comprised of sisters Dani (banjo, harp) and Jacqui Aubert (vocals), their partners Ian Van Ornum (mandolin, bouzouki) and Dan Sherrill (guitar, banjo, mandolin), and good friends Sara Wilbur (violin, viola), Eric Jones (upright bass), and Alex Patterson (drums & percussion). While some find it easy to characterize their music, others hesitatingly distinguish their style as noir-grass, neo-folk, neo-Americana, or simply Alternative. Influenced by the broader folk revival of the last 70+ years, the band's three distinct songwriters draw upon diverse influences to bring forth a new, yet familiar sound.
In the Fall of 2013, Patchy Sanders, hailing from performance arts mecca Ashland, Oregon, released the final pressing of their debut album, "& The Wild Peach Forest." The album was recorded at Loud Palace Studios in Weed, California under the guidance of famed producer Sylvia Massy. The record breathes with true acoustic instrumentation from the traditional banjo, guitar, and mandolin, to the more mystical instruments like harp, pedal organ, and nyckel harpa. These instruments provide a masterful foundation to the strong lyrical and vocal essence which characterizes Patchy Sanders' versatility. Massy sees great potential for the band, proclaiming "Patchy Sanders & The Wild Peach Forest" as a milestone in her luminous career (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty): "I've been waiting 14 years to make THIS record!"
"Great musicianship, harmonies, and feel. A really warm vibe that makes wherever you are standing feel like the center of a Gypsy Caravan." ~Mason Jennings
"Timeless. I could hear this band in the 16th, 18th, and 21st Centuries. Thanks Patchy!" ~Sedge Thomson (West Coast Live, Host)
Steep Ravine
Steep Ravine is an acoustic quartet hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area. Their unique sound, equal parts poetic lyricism and string-playing ingenuity, bends folk and bluegrass in compelling new directions. TRAMPIN' ON, the quartet's debut album of originals, is an ode to Steep Ravine's musical prowess, blending melodic verse, tight harmonies, and rich instrumentals while showcasing the diverse musical backgrounds of the band mates, which also encompass classical, jazz, and funk. Guitarist and lead vocalist Simon Linsteadt and violinist Jan Purat began playing music together back in high school in 2007 and later moved on to study music at UC Santa Cruz, where they fortuitously met mandolinist Andy O'Brien and bassist Alex Bice in 2012. Their riveting live performances catch audiences by surprise with the sheer acoustic power of their collaborative sound, a mix of soulful tunes and fiery instrumentals. After funding TRAMPIN' ON with a very successful Kickstarter campaign, the band headed to Tiny Telephone Studios, an analog recording studio in San Francisco that records onto 2-inch tape. With the Fall 2013 release of the album, Steep Ravine embarked on its first national tour, with shows in Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, Tucson, Silver City, New Orleans, St. Louis, Columbia, Denver, Colorado Springs, Missoula, Seattle, Portland, Eugene, and many points in between. In addition to a packed schedule of shows around the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond, plus appearances at such music festivals as Outside Lands 2013 and the Northwest String Summit 2013, the band has been featured live on KPIG, KPFA, KZSC, and NPR's West Coast Live.
