Astoria, Oregon Celebrates Anniversary of Film with Goonies Day
The house made famous in The Goonies as the residence of the Walsh family is an iconic location. Each year, thousands of fans make the trek to the house to stand where the kids did in the movie and snap a photo in front of it. The private home will be opened in honor of Goonies Day and fans will have the opportunity to step inside and take a tour.
ABOUT THE HOUSE TOUR: ** Fans are reminded this is a private residence, please be respectful when visiting any time. The interior of the house has been remodeled since it was a film location. To view memorabilia from the movie, also visit the Oregon Film Museum at 7th & Duane.
** The tour will be somewhat self-guided with the homeowners and volunteer docents to interpret the current status of the house and how it was used in the film as well as answer your questions.
** You will be asked to remove your shoes before entering the home to lessen our wear and tear on the carpet. Please be mindful this is a private residence and behave appropriately.
PARKING: Parking is limited in the neighborhood around the house. Please be mindful of the neighbors and park at our two suggested parking areas, about 2-3 blocks away. ** East End Marina - this parking lot is easily accessed located on Hwy 30 at 37th street. We will have a volunteer in this lot to provide you with a parking permit, so you can ignore the signs to pay for parking at the boat launch. Remember the scene where Rosalita crosses the street? You can walk her path on your way to the house! ** Astor Elementary - this nearby school does not have a parking lot but there is on-street parking available adjacent to the school on 36th and Franklin streets. This is the school seen in Kindergarten Cop. ** Drop off - attendees may be dropped off at 37th and Duane so that they can walk up Duane to the driveway at 38th.
Other activities on Goonies Day include: ** Tour the house made famous in The Goonies ** Enjoy a Scavenger Hunt to many Goonies-enthusiast businesses ** Visit the Oregon Film Museum ** Watch the Goonies on the big screen with other fans ** And much more! Goonies Day events are a joint effort of the Astoria-Warrenton Area Chamber of Commerce and the Oregon Film Museum.
