~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Why is this event so important?
There has been an increasing onslaught of detriment that seems to permeate our Urban Communities. The image of Urban Youth, particularly that of the African American teenage male, has been synonymously linked to drugs, violence & death! This image has caused devastation to all members of our Urban communities as a collective but none more so than our Elders.
Urban Chicago needs a facelift and that new face is:
Beynji Marsh and UDÉ YAH!
Beynji honors the idea that it takes a village to raise a child. But he also embraces the idea that it takes those children to nurture and care for our Elders in order to keep the village strong. With that in mind and that as the goal he recognizes that the youth have an equal responsibility to create a new image of themselves, for themselves and for the community.
Beynji, a native of Bronzeville, is a young talented Black male who is helping to create that new image. He is a member of the Chicago High School for the Arts Inaugural Class of 2013 (the Pioneers). At the age of 19, he has already become an accomplished Artist in Chicago. He is a Dancer, Choreographer, Music Producer and Entrepreneur. He founded his own youth group UDÉ YAH in 2010 with whom he has performed and shared the gift of Fine and Performing Arts throughout Chicago. He has won various awards as an individual and with the group.
He is currently working to build UDÉ YAH into a world renowned dance and arts organization led by youth to reach youth and guided by the Elders. He was awarded the 2011 Dance Chicago Best New Voice in Choreography. He is a 2013 YoungArts winner in Choreography.
He is a Sophomore at the University of Michigan pursuing a BFA with a concentration in Dance. He will also minor in Arts Management and Kinesiology. He was awarded a full cost of attendance scholarship.
In an effort to contribute to reshaping the image of Urban youth Beynji Marsh presents:
UDÉ YAH's 2nd Annual Free Performance & Tribute to Chicagoland Elders 40+:
Saturday, August 16, 2014, 7-10:30p The Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts 915 E 60th Street (Corner of 60th & Drexel Blvd Show: 7:00p - Performance Hall Dinner Reception: 9:00p - Courtyard
This is a community event of EPOCH proportions! It will continue to touch the lives of hundreds of Elders who deserve to witness Chicago's Urban Youth in a positive new light. Using the Fine and Performing Arts Beynji and these young Artists will remind them of the innate beauty and excellence that lies within their youth. Thus beginning the process of replacing the reoccurring negative image of Urban Youth with a positive one! This is an important step in the healing process of the Urban community!
Beynji asks that you support this cause by:
1.) SECURING YOUR SEATS ONLINE NOW! 2.) Spreading the word by sharing this message with all of your family, friends, colleagues & coworkers! 3.)
