African Drum and Dance Concert
Imagine this:
The deep hot sounds of the Djembe drums rumble in the distance,
and a chant is called back and forth between the children.
Drums and voices become a river of sound
and the room is transformed into an African village.
Drummers and troupe dance into view.
They begin "KÚKÁTÓNÓN!"
African drums, children's voices, and their fantastic dance create remarkable energy that cries LIFE, HOPE, and JOY!
The Kúkátónón Children's African Dance Troupe was named the Best African Dance Troupe by the African Messenger in 2011. Come to the African Drum and Dance Concert April 27, and you will know why!
Bring the whole family, and spend a Sunday afternoon in Africa without ever leaving the Portland area. Shop at the African Market, enjoy delicious authentic African foods, and let the kids participate in activities just for them. And experience KÚKÁTÓNÓN African dance!
All proceeds from the African Drum and Dance performance and the African market go to Chwele Community Development, sponsored by Tigard Community Friends Church. Come to the event, and see how Chwele Community Development has been changing lives in Kenya since 1994, empowering women and children in rural Kenyan communities to create income for self-sustaining programs in healthcare, education and micro-credit businesses.
Doors open to the African Food+Market at 2 p.m. The Kúkátónón Dance Troupe performs at 3 p.m. The event concludes at 5 p.m.
