Event
Beethoven, Brahms, and Doolittle
The Fair Trade Trio, based in Manhattan and on their second tour of the Pacific northwest, is pleased to present an afternoon of chamber music at the beautiful Resonance at SOMA Towers, with Seattle's own renowned pianist, Li-Tan Hsu. We will open the program with Beethoven's last and darkest string trio before he embarked on his incredible string quartet writing, Op. 9, No. 3. We are also pleased to present the U.S. premiere of Emily Doolittle's piece, Field Guide.
Emily, a Seattle resident from 2008-2015, now lives in Glasgow, UK, and is an Athenaeum Research Fellow at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. An ongoing interest for Doolittle is the relationship between music and sounds from the natural world, particularly bird and other animal songs, which we explore together in this new work.
We will close the program with Brahms' incredible first piano quartet. This almost-symphonic work transports the listener through nearly every emotion and culminates in a feisty dance. We are pleased to be joined by pianist Li-Tan Hsu, a prizewinner from the Liszt Garrison Competition, who regularly works with the Seattle Symphony and Seattle Opera. She has also collaborated with Pacific Northwest Ballet, and the Opus 7 Vocal Ensemble.
This concert is appropriate for audiences of all ages and will be approximately 85 minutes in length including a 5 minute pause.
