Jazz Junction 2017
Full Compass Systems presents "Jazz Junction," a fundraising concert and event for the Greater Madison Jazz Consortium, on Sunday, August 20 from 2:00 - 5:00 PM.

Jazz Junction's headline performer is the storied jazz vocalist Mary Stallings, www.marystallingsjazz.com, accompanied by celebrated pianist Mike LeDonne, http://mikeledonne.net/.

The New York Times calls Mary Stallings "...perhaps the best jazz singer singing today." Ms. Stallings is the greatest living vocalist in the tradition of Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae, and Dinah Washington.  Check out samples of her music at http://marystallingsjazz.com/music/.

A world-renowned artist whose career dates back to the early 1960s, Mary Stallings was the first jazz musician to perform at the iconic Prague National Theater, in a memorial concert for the late Czech Republic President Vaclav Havel.  Ms. Stallings has been a headliner at many of the world's highest-profile jazz venues and festivals, and gave a stunning headline performance at the 2012 Isthmus Jazz Festival at the Wisconsin Union Theater.  Ms. Stallings recently conducted a 4-day series of showcase performances at San Francisco's SFJazz, the West Coast equivalent of New York's Jazz at Lincoln Center, where she serves as one of four SFJazz Artistic Directors, https://www.sfjazz.org/events/2016-17/resident-artistic-directors.

Prior to Ms. Stallings' headline performance, and starting around 2:30 PM, our audience will be treated to a 20-minute performance by one of Madisons terrific Latin Jazz bands, Acoplados. Recently expanded from a quartet to a quintet, the band features the two-horn front line of saxophonist Tony Barba and trombonist Jamie Kember, with a rhythm section of Richard Richito Hildner Armacanqui on guitar, Nick Moran on bass, and Juan Tomas Juancho MartÍnez París on percussion and vocals.

In addition to the live music, Jazz Junction will include a raffle, wine pull, and silent and live auctions.  Net proceeds from this event will support the vital performance and education programs of the Greater Madison Jazz Consortium, www.jazzinmadison.org.
