Kaleidoscope

A virtuostic trio of legends: Bill Douglas, piano, Ty Burhoe, tabla, and Sandra Wong, violin. A celebration of rich and joyful music ranging from Celtic, African, Swedish, and Indian music to brilliant classical, jazz, and funk arrangements.

Bill Douglas is an internationally celebrated pianist-composer-bassoonist who toured and recorded for thirty years with clarinetist Richard Stoltzman. As a bassoonist, he has played with the Toronto and New Haven Symphonies, and has recorded three RCA albums with Peter Serkin and Tashi. As a jazz pianist, he has toured and recorded with vibraphonist Gary Burton and bassist Eddie Gomez. In 1994, SOCAN, the Canadian equivalent of ASCAP and BMI, presented him with their classical composer of the year award. His compositions have been performed by major orchestras and chamber groups around the world.

Ty Burhoe has been a disciple of the great tabla maestro, Ustad Zakir Hussain, since1990. Ty is known for his inspired accompaniment and uplifting presence in both classical and in fusion settings and is internationally recognized for being instrumental in creating unique collaborations that weave tabla with other world traditionsHe has performed in prestigious halls around the world including Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House and Royal Festival Hall in London.

Violinist and Nyckelharpa* virtuoso Sandra Wong toured nationally and internationally as a solo artist. Sandra also creates and personally facilitates musical study trips to different countries leading people into the heart of individual folk cultures through the music and dance of each country. She strives to nurture a deep love of music and the arts in both children and adults. Sandra teaches privately, and in group and workshop settings, and performs family and childrens concerts. *The Nyckelharpa is from Sweden. It is a 16 stringed, keyed instrument played with a bow.
