Featured speakers:

Jeff Adams is a Marine Ecologist at Washington Sea Grant, part of the University of Washingtons College of the Environment. Jeff supports beach naturalist, watershed stewardship, and invasive-species programs throughout Puget Sound as well as associated citizen-science opportunities. He is passionate about sharing the wonders of watery worlds with specialized professional and general audiences. Current projects include working with Shore Friendly Kitsap colleagues, volunteers, and shoreline homeowners to consider alternatives to bulkheads; monitoring shoreline restoration projects; monitoring pocket estuaries for native and invasive crabs; and collaborating with WSU colleagues to implement Kitsaps Watershed Stewardship Programs. In his off time, Jeff enjoys Vashon Island life with his wife and two budding beach naturalists.

Erica Guttman, WSU Extension Water Resources, brings over 30 years of experience combining on-the-ground projects with education for a wide range of landowner and professional audiences on topics including shoreline processes, green stormwater infrastructure, sustainable landscaping, and revegetation techniques. She has produced a number of publications and videos to support landowner-stewardship practices, and leads classes for over 2,000 participants annually on topics relating to protecting and conserving water resources and habitat. Her MS is in ecological restoration with a focus on the Puget Sound nearshore. She is certified by the Dept. of Licensing and has been an instructor for Real Estate professionals for over 16 years.

Renee Johnson, WSU Kitsap Co. Extension, serves the Kitsap Peninsula to teach citizens about ways to keep saltwater and stream habitats healthy. She coordinates classes, field trips, and activities focused on natural resources, including saltwater and freshwater science and watershed issues such as stormwater and restoring land with native vegetation. She leads Stream Stewards, Beach Naturalist, Native Plant, and Shoreline Living classes and field trips for hundreds of Kitsap and Pierce County residents. Renee also works with local water-resources science, planning and stormwater professionals to create and improve educational publications. She trains and supervises a team of over 100 dedicated volunteers to support healthy watersheds in the Kitsap Peninsula.

Kristen Stavros, Windermere Real Estate: Kristen began her career in adult education in New Zealand, and then specifically chose Whidbey Island as home when she returned to the States to settle down. Her work locally with WSU Extension and then regionally with the Puget Sound Partnership (PSP), has given her over a decade of regionally-specific environmental experience. As the Education & Outreach Manager for PSP, it was her responsibility to connect the most up-to-date scientific information with education/outreach professionals  around Puget Sound to make the  biggest impact in protecting this key resource.  Her passion to arm people with the most critical information and effective ways to use that information persists in her new career as a broker with Windermere Real Estate. During the workshop, Kristen will help "connect the dots" to enable brokers to better serve their clients by most effectively utilizing the scientific information presented.
