INTERNATIONAL HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMEMORATION
The Museum of Tolerance invites you and a guest to a special screening of
THEY PLAYED FOR THEIR LIVES A Film by Nurit Jugend
Thursday January 26, 2017 7:00 p.m. at the Museum of Tolerance
In their darkest hours, one thing gave them hope. The extraordinary story of eight musicians whose lives were saved by music.
Through intimate interviews and live performances, They Played for Their Lives artfully portrays how music saved the lives of eight young musicians. Each unique story illustrates the power of music to sustain the human soul. At the end of the war their lives unfold in surprising ways, yet music remains at the core of their memory and legacy. Charcoal illustrations, a piano performance by 106-year old Alice, and a moving reunion of two boys who searched for each other for 66 years, make this compelling viewing. Special Musical Performance by Holocaust Survivor Hellmuth Szprycer, who is featured in the film.
Q&A with filmmakers Nurit Jugend, Ph.D. and Aaron I. Butler.
