This New Year's Eve, Asheville's newest restaurant Calypso is featuring three special events on Lexington Avenue. Esther Frances Joseph and Mikey Thorpe (of Mikey's List) will be hosting two ticketed fabulous dinner parties and an after-party.
This 2016 New Year's Eve After-Party $20 ticket grants you access to 18 North Lexington and our disco street tent. The ticket includes your choice of one of our Caribbean cocktails.
An extravaganza of costumed dancers and Caribbean music spun by dj Disc-oh! will bring the taste, sound, and movement of carnivale in the islands to Asheville.
The celebration of Carnivale in St. Lucia is centered on the powerful beauty of the ocean Goddess Calypso and the fertile potential of the Island's famous Piton peaks, representing masculine energy. This balance of feminine and masculine describes the festive narrative of their popular colonial carnivale. The food, cocktails, dancing, and rituals honor African, English, French. and East Indian cultures coming together to honor the sea and mountains and bring in the new year. St. Lucia's carnivale culture is absolutely explosive with merriment, dance, and music. The event is often represented by ecstatic pilgrims dancing their way up to the Soufriere Volcano, which is both a source of healing waters and cultural pride.
