What are Peer Support Specialists?
They are consumers who are in recovery who are hired to provide services to adults with Mental Health Substance Use disabilities who are eligible for enhanced services.
What do Peer Support Specialists do?
They provide services which are individualized and recovery-focused and assist consumers with learning to manage their own recovery and how to self-advocate. These are accomplished by emphasizing personal safety, self worth, confidence, connection to the community, boundary setting, planning, personal fulfillment, development of social supports, the helper principle and effective communication skills.
