Z -- SCREENING 3. Bronx World Film Cycle 2016.
El globo azul (DIR/SCR/PROD Izabel Acevedo. MEXICO, 2016, color, ????) CAT: Drama.

Trail of Hope (Tarigh al-Amal. SCR/DIR Mohamed Echkouna, MAURITANIA, 2016, color, 15:00). Drama. Abdallahi, an abusive and self-centered taxi driver, meets Mariam, a young woman, on the deserted highway to Nouadhibou. Minutes after he drops her off at home, Abdallahi realizes that Mariam forgot her baccalauréat-prep papers in the car. He drives back to give them to her, but only finds her parents. With shock, wonder and respect, Abdallahi sits with Mariam's parents to listen to a story of emotional and physical abuse that will teach him a lesson. (In Arabic with English subtitles. New York City premiere)

Transitions (SCR/DIR Alamork and Kobi Davidian, ISRAEL, 2016, color, 14:50). Poetic drama. Mimi, a young Ethiopian immigrant in Israel, reconstructs her immigration story, stream-of-consciousness style. The images that shape her identity fade back and forth between the bleak but visually stunning highlands Ethiopia of yesterday  a world peopled by women chanting, working and moving in synchronic circles  and her present-day life in Israel looking to an uncertain future. (Special audience preview. In Amharic and Hebrew with English subtitles)

Dian (SCR Georgia Lin Sundling, DIR Tamara Shogaolu, INDONESIA, 2016, color, 20:00.) Mystery/supernatural drama. Dian, a woman trapped in the mundane expectations of daily life in her Indonesian village, has a marriage to Arief that has grown cold. She longs for love and affection. Unable to conceive a child and therefore worthless as a woman in her society, she turns to shamanic magic to save her marriage and status. Dian may also be the troubled spirit of a woman from beyond the grave. (In Indonesian with English subtitles)
