Bua at Chief O'Neill's
Join Bua for an evening of Irish traditional music, song, and dance on at Chief O'Neill's on Chicago's North side. The evening will include special guest appearances by legendary Chicago-based musician Kevin Henry.
$20 adults. Kids 15 and under are free.
Bua is a quartet comprised of Brían Ó hAirt: vocals, sean-nós dance, concertina; Sean Gavin: flute, uilleann pipes; Devin Shepherd: fiddle; Brian Miller: guitar, bouzouki.
Bua evokes the good times that Irish traditional music so often celebrates, playing in a manner to raise the rafters with their playing, charm with their singing, and delight with their contemporary energy.
Drawing much of their musical inspiration from the rich musical past of Sean and Devin's hometown of Chicago, Bua has established itself individually and as a group in the eyes and ears of the traditional community. In their 2011 release, their album Down the Green Fields, Bua explores the forgotten sounds from the heyday of Irish music in the City of Big Shoulders with a blend of enchantingly stark song arrangements and bold, pulsing dance tunes. Lauded by The Bluegrass Situation as being the top Irish album of the past five years, Down the Green Fields stands as a testament, from beginning to end, of the lasting essentials of the Irish tradition.
This year, flute player Sean Gavin became the first American to be awarded the prestigious Seán Ó Riada Gold Medal at the annual competition in Cork, Ireland. Back in 2002, singer Brían Ó hAirt was the first American to win a senior All-Ireland in traditional singing.
