Event

Bemidji Symphony Orchestra presents Planetary Legends.
You won't want to miss being dazzled by 18-year-old piano virtuoso Gareth Cordery's performance of Tchaikovskys beautiful and much loved Piano Concerto No. 1. Also on the program are Gustav Holsts Jupiter from The Planets, and Mozarts Jupiter Symphony. Dr. Beverly Everett conducts.

Gareth Cordery is a talented, emerging young artist who performs on both piano and cello. He is currently a freshman at Middlebury College in Vermont, in the piano studio of Professor Diana Fanning. Gareth has performed in and with many groups, including the Illinois All-State Orchestras, the Central Illinois Youth Symphony, the Monmouth College Chamber Orchestra, the Knox College String Ensemble, the Maple City Dixieland Jazz Band and the Credo Festival Orchestra.

Gareth has attended camps at prestigious music schools including Oberlin Conservatory and the Eastman School of Music, and has performed with chamber groups across the United States.  He has been active in community groups as well, having served as music director of Grace Episcopal Church in Galesburg, IL, and as drum major of the Monmouth-Roseville Titans Marching Band. A recent high school graduate, Gareth was valedictorian of his class, a member of the National Honor Society, and an Illinois State Scholar.

As a special treat during the concert, Dr. Everett will invite a number of young area string musicians to bring their instruments to the stage and sit side-by-side with BSO musicians in the performance of Holsts Jupiter.

This activity is made possible in part, by a grant provided by the Region 2 Arts Council through an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the States General Fund.

Tickets are available at the door, in advance at Luekens Foods North and South, or at brownpapertickets.com. Prices are $20 for adults, $15 for senior citizens 62+, and $10 for college students with ID.  Students grades K12 are admitted free. Doors open for seating at 2:30 pm.
