"Eastbound Freight" with "The Jeff Davis Maria Fairchild Duo"
The Bluegrass Club of Long Island (BCLI) and The Long Island Museum in Stony Brook are proud to present "Eastbound Freight" with "The Jeff Davis Maria Fairchild Duo" performing on September 9th in the Gillespie Room at the Long Island Museum in Stony Brook. Doors open at 6pm and the music starts at 6:30pm. Wine, Beer and Cider will be available for purchase at the show. (Tickets available soon!)

Eastbound Freight Bluegrass Band has been performing throughout Long Island and the New York Metropolitan area for 25 years. Their concert venues have included the Inter Media Arts Center in Huntington NY, the Harry Chapin Memorial Stage also in Huntington, The Lincoln Center Out-Of-Doors Festival in New York City and many others. They have performed live radio broadcasts on WKCR, WBAZ, and WUSB, and their recordings have been featured on National Public Radios Acoustic Connections program.
The band members share a life-long connection to the music and a love for the big bluegrass sound of the original groups: Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys, Flatt & Scruggs, The Stanley Brothers, Jimmy Martin & the Sunny Mountain Boys, and others. Their repertoire includes tunes popularized by these groups as well as many original songs by banjo player Bill DeTurk.
Eastbound Freight Bluegrass performs at festivals, country fairs, and libraries throughout the region. During the summer they perform evening concerts in parks from Stony Brook to the North & South Forks of Long Island. In the fall, you're likely to see the band at the vineyards of the East End of Long Island, entertaining folks most weekends during the harvest season. The bands first release, Dont Blame Me!, won accolades in Bluegrass Unlimited and received an achievement award from Billboard.

Jeff Davis is one of those musicians who makes everything look easy. He plays superb old-time fiddle, is a master of clawhammer banjo and just as good on guitar, mandolin or mandocello, without ever striving too hard for showy licks or empty virtuosity. His singing, based on long immersion in the styles of the old singers is truly timeless, conjuring vividly the world of the cowboy or the Civil War soldier. When Jeff Davis sings the repertoire of the Appalachian Mountains, said the Chronicle Herald of Nova Scotia, he cuts through decades and across borders, sitting us right down in the dirt in front of a weather-beaten shack, at the feet of a hillbilly singer - he combines authenticity and art in a rare way. Jeff has an unusual and refreshing repertoire that includes songs and music from New England and the American West, as well as the more common Southern mountain material. His performances range from Appalachian ballads to Long Island fiddle tunes, songs of the civil war to African-American-style banjo-picking.
MARIA FAIRCHILD:
Maria Fairchild is known as one of the top clawhammer banjo players in the Northeast. Always expanding musical boundaries, she has successfully added the banjos rhythmic drive to a variety of genres. Blending traditional folk and southern Appalachian music with a contemporary backbeat, Marias unique style has dazzled audiences in the Pacific Northwest, Canada, and England as well as her native Long Island, where shes a familiar face on the acoustic and bluegrass circuits. Her solo CD Celebration features traditional American songs, original tunes, and classic rock covers and has been featured on many folk and bluegrass radio programs. Television and radio appearances include Wes Houston Presents, Long Island Blues Warehouse, Blue Grass Time, and The Bayou. Maria plays at many local festivals and concerts and is also in demand as a banjo teacher and square dance caller.
