Live at Mueller College: Hugo Suarez Group, Nicole Goldsmid, Chris McKenna
Join us this Friday for an intimate evening of collaborative and solo musical performances by local San Diego musicians. Chris McKenna hosts and curates this monthly concert series in University Heights on the first Friday of each month. This is the third concert in the series, and if you attended the first two, you know that each one is different and features an eclectic mix of San Diego artists. Hugo Suarez is a young, rising star in the San Diego jazz scene. Armed with virtuosic chops and an impeccable ability to listen and respond effortlessly in the moment, Suarez brings a modern interpretation to the piano in the vein of Robert Glasper. Hip hop and neo soul factor into his compositions as much as the jazz canon, and he seems poised to make a name for himself in the world of jazz beyond San Diego.
At the ripe old age of 18, Nicole Goldsmid brings a maturity and spiritual depth to her music that is well beyond her peers. Goldsmid combines folk-roots with an ethereal sound and hauntingly-beautiful vocal melodies to produce contemplative, affecting songs. At a young age, she is not only writing honest music, but performing it with a calm and joyful presence that comes across as the truest, most natural expression of her being.
Chris McKenna is the guitarist, lead singer, and principal songwriter of San Diego-based rock band, Kid Haney & The Imaginal Cells. McKenna writes heart-felt, quirky pop songs with contemporary references that find joy and absurdity in the mundane. The band's debut album, Ukulele Social Club, will be released this summer via Buenotown Records.
