Chris Cohen ~ Sometimes as a leader, sometimes as a sideman and collaborator; sometimes as an invisible musician, Chris Cohen is an unsung hero of modern music. Cohen has been a contributing member of legendary bands such as Deerhoof, Cryptacize, and the Curtains. He has also been a touring musician with Ariel Pink, Cass McCombs, Danielson, and White Magic. As of late he has released two beautiful albums under his own name. The most recent effort, As If Apart, showcases Cohens warm songwriting and instrumental prowess. In an age where image is often valued over product, Chris Cohen shows us that good tunes always prevail.

Religious Girls~ Religious Girls are a diverse group of multi-instrumentalists who each come from separate musical backgrounds such as metal, noise, math rock and pop. Using their talents, Religious Girls have focused their energy into creating beautiful harmonies and layering them over intricate and percussive rhythms. They prefer to play on the floor near listeners rather than a distant stage because they feel that no matter how high quality a recording may be, the live set is what moves people. Collectively, the band has tried to push aside the standards of popular songwriting with non-repeating structures, an intricate mathematical style, and a carefully laid out set in which all songs are interweaved into one. Religious Girls offers an intense and dramatic set, leaving viewers in awe by the end of the performance.

Golden Drugs ~ Combining schizophrenic rhythms and heartwarming melodies, Golden Drugs sound as delusional as they do pretty. Singer and guitarist Drew Pearson's voice can go from high and childish to morosely low in a matter of seconds. Their first album "In the Midnight Sun or Stubbornly Persistent Illusion" shows a band with a unique vision unlike any other band. Their new record "Sugar Water" is coming out soon.

Ganglians~ Since 2008 Ganglians have been pushing the boundaries of what lo-fi pop can be. Since their debut self titled record, it was clear they had a sound apart from the bands of their time. The mix of Ryan Grubbs clear and menacing voice with Kyle Hoovers percussive lead lines creates a sound that can only be called Ganglians. Their sophomore release Monster Headroom showed Ganglians trading the grit of their first album for a cleaner and more dynamic sound. This isnt to say that Monster Headroom lacked the oddity of the first release. The track Valient Brave sounds like an ayahuasca trip gone wrong and The Void washes the listener in a feeling of cosmic ennui. Yet the tear jerking ballads like To June and Modern African Queen are what set this record apart from the first one. This record was released on the acclaimed label Woodsist. After this Ganglians released their cleanest record to date Still Living. It was a clean, lush, and heartwarming release filled with shimmering guitars, Beach Boys esque vocals, and a driving rhythm section. After touring for this record they broke up and have come back together to play a string of shows. Wetted 2016 is glad that this is one of them.

Sam Flax~ Sam Flax has a heady 80s revivalist take on guitar pop that makes the kids of the 2010s shake their ass. On his only record Age Waves, Sam Flax shows a knack for production that trumps most of his contemporaries. In his live shows, Sam Flax replicates the intricate sounds of his record flawlessly. Danceable, gritty, dirty, and sexy, his music summons the party god in all of us. He was signed to Burger before it was cool.

Emotional~ Emotional is the spiritual manifestation of songwriter, singer, director, and Death Records founder Brian Wakefield. Wakefield, a San Jose native, has been a humble mainstay in the San Francisco music community since the early 00s, working with various bands, most notably the dream pop quartet Melted Toys. Wakefield has also served as a sideman in many local projects. Emotional was initially embarked upon as an experimental side pop project to Melted Toysit now serves as the signature vessel for Wakefields personal songwriting. AhhThe Name's Emotional, Baby! arrives as a multi-label effort that will awaken a passionate surrender of humility and guilty pleasure. Following his heroes Kate Bush, Gram Parsons, and The Smashing Pumpkins, Wakefield casts a spell of irresistible tangy guitar reverb, bending synths, and candid melodies. It is a pop record, it is a true story, and it is a testament to the modern state of feelings.

Clumsy~ Clumsy is the brain-child of Adam Wilson, Fabrizio Incerti, and Matthew Horton. Since 2014 they have been crafting their unique take on jangly rock music and have released two albums. In regards to their first album Concentration, Daniel Bromfield of the Daily Emerald said The spiky chord choices and occasional lapses into moments of spontaneous beauty keep these songs from becoming predictable, even with their minimal power-trio arrangements (look out for the synthesizers, though). On Clumsys second release Love Pop, they recruited cellist Jesse Jenks, viola player Nathan Ho, and saxophonist Jake Levy to create a lush orchestral take on trip rock. They also brought in vocalists Marika Sturman and Anya Hirota to layer in thick choir vocals. Clumsys live shows strip down their recorded material to a raw and energetic three piece presentation which is heavy, shreddy, and abrasive.
