My True Colors Festival--An Official 2016 NYC Pride Event

A premier gathering of performance arts, film, and entertainment enthusiasts, My True Colors Festival: Fighting for Social Justice and Cultural Diversity Through the Arts marks its second year. This multidisciplinary annual arts events will be held June 10-26, 2016, in Brooklyn, New York, primarily at the Wythe Hotel Screening Room, with live performances and select events at other venues. MTCF will kick off with a festival buzz party in celebration of Pride to be held in the rotunda at Brooklyn Borough Hall. This year's festival is comprised of some 35 plays, live performances, narrative feature films, documentaries, shorts, webisodes and special presentations that span across the country and around the globe from artists representing 10 U.S. cities, 15 countries and 20+ nationalities.Festival highlights are "The L Word 3.0," June 20 is a day of programming dedicated to women, including the screening of Suicide Kale by Brittani Nichols, a comedian and actress (Transparent), who wrote, produced and starred in this feature about two queer couples. June 22 has been designated as "T-Day," featuring screenings and talkbacks relevant to the transgender community, including the Spanish-Cape Verdean documentary Tchindas about the trans community in the Cape Verdean islands, presenting a side of Africa that is all too rarely seen.My True Colors Festival is dedicated to bringing together innovative storytellers and is committed to building a bridge between domestic and international lesbian, gay, transgender, questioning, intersex, asexual plus (LGBTQIA+) communities and allies as part of our goal to break through closet doors and demolish divisive concrete walls around the globe. MTCFs showcases tackle social and human issues from marriage quality to religious freedom to anti-bullying to transgender rights.
