The Garden / Plague Vendor / Kim and The Created
The Garden -
Vada Vada! Wait, Vada Vada? Not only is The Vada Vada a dance (a Kabuki-like flailing of self provoking either the wrath or admiration from the now anachronistic form of sweaty, middle aged flesh) and developed by twin brothers Wyatt and Fletcher Shears of the Southern California band The Garden its also the bands calling card. Its a genre. Its a song off their new record, The Life and Times of a Paperclip, out July 23rd on Burger Records. Its an all-encompassing philosophy of radical self-identity through hyperactivity, music, and monster movies. Its a way of life. Twin brothers from Orange, California, Wyatt and Fletcher were born into the crashing wave of OC hardcore and, from the get-go, were instantly ahead of their time. The obligatory scum punk phase that most have in the later years of high school came and went for the brothers as fourth graders. And while the rest of their peers were first discovering The Dead Kennedys and Black Flag, the brothers Shears preferred the hostile and art damaged rhythms of Saccharine Trust, The Minutemen, and Killing Joke.
Plague Vendor -
Time as a band breeds experience, yielding commitment to a cause and cementing a career path. This is something Plague Vendor has learned. The foursome, who emerged from a practice space in Whittier, CA in 2009, started by playing endless live shows around Southern California, filling everywhere from backyard parties to clubs to festivals with their raucous, formidable music. At the heart of every show, no matter the venue, was sincere energy and spirit, always resulting in a snarling, frenetic performance. The shows stacked up, accumulating every year, and eventually birthed Plague Vendors 2014 debut album Free To Eat, a dark, thrashing collection that clocked in at less than twenty minutes.
Growing up on the hardcore music of Saccharine Trust, the Minutemen, and Killing Joke, and sharing the quirky insider humor of bands like Dead Milkmen, They Might Be Giants, and Ween, twin brothers Fletcher and Wyatt Shears started the band Garden in their hometown of Orange, California when they were 19 years old. With Fletcher on drums (easily identifiable by his blonde hair and habitual cross-dressing) and Wyatt singing and playing bass, Garden released a debut cassette titled Everything Is Perfect in 2012, with The Life and Times of a Paperclip and the EP Rules appearing the following summer. In the fall of 2015, they issued the freewheeling, 17-track electro-punk Haha. ~ Jason Lymangrover & Marcy Donelson
