Bizet's Carmen!
Carmen Press Release
The Celestial Opera Company, founded in 1998 by Judith Townsend, is proud to announce its upcoming production of one of the worlds most famous and beloved operas, Bizets Carmen! Stage Director Maurice Godin (House, Friends) creates a mesmerizing scene of love, duty, passion, and betrayal. The desperate young soldier Don José is led astray from his village life and love, the adoring village girl Micaela, as he chases the irresistible gypsy temptress, Carmen. Carmens seduction and charms lead Don Jose into obsession and ruin when she leaves him for the swaggering bullfighter, Escamillo.
The opera will be fully staged, costumed, and will feature a small orchestral ensemble led by Music Director Tim León. The opera will be sung in French with English supertitles. The performances will feature a pre-opera talk given by musicologist and Ingolf Dahl Award winner Danielle Stein one hour before curtain time. All performances will be held at The Womans Club of South Pasadena, 1424 Fremont Ave, South Pasadena, CA 91030.
